Hasnat Abdullah Calls for Reinstatement of Anchor Jenisia Borna Fired Over Controversy

Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party, Calls for Reinstatement of News Anchor and two others.

A private television anchor, Jenisia Borna and two others in Bangladesh were fired after an off-air conversation yesterday, March 13, 2025. The anchor used an inappropriate remark to refer to two activists, Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party, and Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region).

Hasnat Abdullah said in a post “The journalists of “Ekhon TV” must be reinstated. We fought for the freedom to express dissent. We fought for your freedom to use abusive language as well. Not just freedom of expression, but the freedom to express dissent must also continue”.

He also added a comment under his post saying “Three journalists from Ekhon TV have been dismissed for using abusive language. I am embarrassed by this incident”.
