Dhaka WASA’s Mysterious Hiring: No Circular, No Exam – Just Recommendations

A total of 150 people has appointed, where No Circular, No Exam, Just Recommendations from various individuals including Coordinators of Anti-Discrimination student movement.

Dhaka WASA has hired 150 people overnight in various zones without any job notification or examination. The entire process has been based on referrals from various individuals. Most of the recommendations bear the names of PS and APS Moazzem.

Even the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement were not left out. Six people were hired based on the recommendation of coordinator Touhid. The names of coordinators Nusrat Tabassum and Nazmul are also on the list of referrers, report DeshTv.

“When the team from Desh TV tried to enter Zone 6 of WASA to speak with the newly hired employees, they were stopped by security personnel. Although they were eventually allowed to enter, they were not granted permission to speak with the employees.”

DeshTv also said that “When trying to contacted via mobile phone based on the list, most of the hired individuals hung up as soon as the names of the referring coordinators were mentioned.”

However, coordinator Touhid was surprised to see his name on the list of recommenders. He claims that no such recommendations were made on behalf of the coordinators.

This incident raises the question: Is WASA itself benefiting under the guise of recommendations from coordinators and PS-APS?

Regarding this, WASA Secretary Mashihur Rahman claims that everything was done by the WASA MD, and he only signed off on it. However, when asked for details, the secretary and his staff became agitated.

When approached for comment, the WASA MD did not speak with the Desh TV team, citing the need for prior permission.

In 2018, the Ministry of Finance issued an order not to hire employees on a temporary or master roll basis. However, many organizations, including WASA, continue to provide jobs on a master roll basis.
