Story of Holika Dahan
The origins of Holika Dahan trace back to Hindu mythology, particularly the story of Prahlad and his father, King Hiranyakashipu. The king, an arrogant and power-hungry ruler, wanted everyone in his kingdom to worship him instead of Lord Vishnu. However, his own son, Prahlad, remained a staunch devotee of Vishnu, which enraged the king.
Hiranyakashipu sought several ways to punish Prahlad for his devotion but failed each time due to divine intervention. Finally, he turned to his sister, Holika, who had a magical boon that made her immune to fire. She tricked Prahlad into sitting on her lap inside a blazing pyre, thinking she would emerge unscathed while he would perish. However, due to his unwavering faith in Vishnu, Prahlad was saved, while Holika was reduced to ashes.
